From food brand to studio.
Before this, I built Austria’s first low-carb food brand. Ten years, nine books, the TV and radio rounds, the odd stranger recognising me at the supermarket. It worked. That was the problem. I’d stopped baking and started managing fifteen people and a mountain of spreadsheets, and a thing that stops feeding you isn’t worth keeping, however well it’s doing. So when Covid gave me the push, I handed it over and left.
I started painting again in 2020, mid-lockdown. Then fluid paint got hold of me, the way colour moves while it’s wet, and it never let go. What carried over was my hands. Years of building texture in cake frosting, layer by layer, turned out to be the same movement I use now with structure paste. Just a bigger surface. A wedding cake can only be so tall.
Every painting here has those years of hand work behind it. Probably why I trust my hands more than my plans.
