Peace

I painted this on a bad day. The kind where you don't sit down to make art, you just need to get something out of you.

I was sure it would come out angry. Sharp, dark, something I'd paint over. I only started it to empty myself, not to keep anything.

What dried was calm. A soft circle, a quiet center. I named it Peace. I still don't fully know how that happens. You sit down with a mess inside you and the hand finds the opposite. Maybe the calm was in there the whole time, under the noise.

It stays quiet on a wall, but quiet isn't empty. There's a lot moving under the surface, in the layers and the gold, and it holds a room without ever raising its voice.
