This one came out of thinking about old Japanese trees. The ones that have stood for hundreds of years, bent and weathered, and still hold their ground.

A single line of black, deep green and gold moves diagonally across the canvas, and I left most of the surface white on purpose. The empty space is the point, room to breathe.

While I was painting it, my tripod with the phone on it toppled straight onto the wet canvas. Black splatters, everywhere. I stood there ready to be annoyed, and then I saw they belonged. So they stayed. That's the painting, and I wouldn't change it.

That's the Zen side of how I try to live, and how I paint. Presence over noise. Let a thing be what it is.

Rooted 1 and Rooted 2 were painted as a pair, which is why you will see them hanging together in the last images. They hold a wall side by side and just as well on their own, so take both or take one. Each is sold separately.

100 × 70 × 2.5 cm (39.4 × 27.6 × 1.0 in), landscape. Mixed media on canvas: acrylic, structure paste, and gold pigment, kept deliberately spare in material and palette. Framed in a black wood floating frame. Ready to hang. Signed and varnished. Austrian artist-grade paints and paste, archival and vegan, made to last without yellowing or fading. Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, and the canvas is signed and labelled on the back.
